Meet James Knight
The lead designer at Reynard Custom Homes, James Knight is the creative force behind each custom home design.

Designing and building a truly custom home requires more than just a sketch; it requires a roadmap and the engagement and support of an entire team.
Since 2021, Reynard has been the architectural force behind over 50 custom homes to date. Our team works tirelessly to guide clients through the complex journey from concept to construction.
As you tour our architectural portfolio, you'll see a diverse range of styles, but the process remains the same: we equip you with comprehensive architectural designs, photorealistic 3D renderings, and all the essential construction documentation required to get your home permitted and built.
Whether you are in the dreaming phase or ready to break ground, we would love to connect and hear your ideas.
Stop dreaming. Start designing.
Our Team.
Reynard Custom Homes was born from a shared vision in 2020, when founders James Knight, Jack Baldwin, and Kalyn Kight first met while working at a commercial design firm in Atlanta. While the commercial world prioritized efficiency, we saw a missing piece in the residential market: a truly collaborative, client-first design experience.
In 2021, we launched Reynard to bridge that gap. By combining James’s architectural vision, Jack’s client advocacy, and Kalyn’s visual storytelling, we created a firm that doesn't just draft plans—we bring homes to life. Today, our team bridges continents and disciplines to deliver architecturally distinct homes across the Southeast, grounded in transparency, technology, and a deep respect for our clients' dreams.
About Reynard Custom Homes
Redefining the Custom Home Experience with Advanced Technology
At Reynard Custom Homes, we believe that designing and building a custom home shouldn’t require a leap of faith; it requires clarity and communication. As a modern architectural design firm serving the Southeast, we leverage cutting-edge 3D architectural rendering and "digital twin" technology to eliminate the guesswork. Unlike traditional firms where clients struggle to visualize 2D blueprints, our process invites you to virtually walk through your home before construction ever begins. This commitment to visualization ensures that every sightline, light fixture, and roof angle is perfected to your satisfaction, saving you time and money during the build phase.
Architectural Excellence Across the Southeast
From the rugged terrain of the North Georgia mountains to the pristine coasts of the Florida Panhandle, our portfolio reflects the diverse landscapes of the American Southeast. Whether we are designing a modern mountain retreat in Blue Ridge or Ellijay, GA a mountainside sanctuary in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee, or a luxury family estate in Savannah, GA, our approach remains the same: site-specific design. We carefully evaluate topography, sun orientation, and natural features to ensure your home doesn't just sit on the land, but works in harmony with it. Our deep understanding of regional building requirements and aesthetics makes us the preferred custom home architect for clients seeking a home that is truly one-of-a-kind.
Collaborative Path to Your Dream Home
True custom architecture is about more than beautiful facades; it is about advocacy and partnership. We bridge the gap between architectural vision and construction reality by acting as your guide throughout the entire journey. By integrating architectural design, interior concepts, and project coordination under one roof, we ensure that your budget is respected and your vision remains intact. Whether you are planning a "forever home" for retirement or a vacation getaway for gathering, our team is dedicated to translating your personal story into a tangible, structural legacy.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to own my lot before I start designing my dream home? Not necessarily. While many of our clients come to us with land already purchased, we can often assist in the site selection process. Our custom home architect can help you evaluate a potential lot for site placement, orientation, topography, and utility access to ensure it is suitable for the home you want to build.
What areas do you currently design homes? We architecturally design custom homes throughout the Southeast and primarily and we have worked as a North Georgia architect in the mountains. We have also designed bespoke homes that have been built in coastal Georgia, Florida as well as the Carolina's and Tennessee Smoky Mountains. Our clients seek us when they want to design their dream home their way.
How often will I be updated on the progress? Communication is a pillar of our business. We have a collaborative custom home design project board (Monday.com) where you will receive regular updates regarding your architectural design progress, upcoming decision deadlines, and budget status. We also provide regular 3D architectural renderings, design videos and visualizations and updates on milestones to ensure everything is designed to your satisfaction.
What do your architectural design services cost? We provide a architectural design flat fee or hourly design option depending on your project's architectural needs. You can see our pricing by accessing our Pricing and Plans page.
How long does the custom home architectural design process take? Typically, our architectural design process takes between 3 to 6 months from the initial consultation to final construction documents. This timeline ensures our custom home architect will have ample time to collaborate with you on the concept, refine the 3D visualizations, and value engineer the plans to your exact specifications. Factors such as the complexity of the site (like mountain terrain) and decision-making speed can influence the overall schedule.
Do you build the homes you design? We specialize exclusively in architectural design and structural engineering. While we do not physically construct the your custom home, we consider ourselves partners in the tender, selection and build process. We find you a General Contractor (builder) and provide them with highly detailed architectural construction documents and 3D visuals to ensure the final result matches your home's design intent. If you don't have a home builder yet, we can recommend trusted professionals we have worked with on our previous 50+ builds. Some of our clients choose to act as their own general contractor and we can work with you that way too!
Will I be able to see what my home looks like before construction begins? Absolutely. We believe you shouldn't have to "imagine" your investment. Our custom home architect utilizes advanced 3D architectural rendering technology and video visualizations throughout the design phase. This allows you to virtually "walk through" your dream home, seeing exactly how the light hits your great room or how the roofline sits against the landscape, giving you total confidence before we ever break ground.
Do you accept renovation or addition projects? Yes, but we specialize in "whole-home" transformations and large-scale additions. We approach these projects with the same rigor as a dream home new build. Our process begins by 3D scanning your existing structure to create an accurate "digital twin," allowing us to reimagine the layout, rooflines, develop a design concept and exterior aesthetic. If you love your location but need your home to function and look like a brand-new custom design, we are the right fit.
