A Contemporary Modern Custom Home Just Outside Atlanta, GA
"Thompson Creek" is a two-story residence defined by its contemporary minimalist style and clean architectural lines.
Designed in collaboration with James Knight, this dream home was conceived as a special place where a family of four will build memories for years to come.
The structure creates a strong horizontal emphasis through a flat, low-pitched roof with deep, dark eaves that provide shade to the upper levels. The massing is asymmetrical yet carefully balanced, combining the height of the main two-story volume on the left with the lower, grounded profile of the single-story carport extension on the right.

The home’s façade showcases a high-contrast, mixed-material palette that blends modern crispness with natural warmth.
Smooth white stucco serves as the primary finish, contrasted by warm horizontal wood siding on the upper story and the rear wall of the spacious, open carport. The exterior is punctuated by expansive floor-to-ceiling windows with bold black frames, creating a transparent feel that emphasizes the indoor-outdoor connection.
Key features include an inviting entryway protected by a flat architectural overhang and slender dark columns, all situated on a manicured lot with a curved concrete driveway and a backdrop of tall, framing pines.
Thompson Creek is a modern home, characterized by clean lines, geometric forms, and a lack of ornamentation.
The exterior features a rectilinear composition with asymmetrical balance. It uses block-like volumes to create depth, with sections of the house projecting forward (like the wood-clad section on the left) to break up the flat façade.
The home features a flat or very low-slope roof with wide, deep overhangs. The roof is edged with a thick, dark fascia board, emphasizing the horizontal lines of the home and providing practical shade.

For this active family of four, building their dream home just outside Atlanta meant striking a delicate balance: creating a bold modern statement that still felt like a warm, welcoming place to come home.
The home was built to frame the family's daily life. Floor-to-ceiling windows dissolve the walls, flooding the living spaces with natural light and turning the surrounding forest into a living backdrop for family breakfasts and quiet evenings.
Practicality meets elegance in the broad, integrated carport—ready for the comings and goings of school runs and road trips—while the deep overhangs of the flat roof provide essential shade during Georgia summers.
The room is anchored by a sprawling white sectional that offers soft, inviting lines, contrasting sharply with the architectural rigidity of the center coffee table—a custom piece merging cool travertine stone with warm, dark timber.
The neutral palette is punctuated by organic sculptural elements, including a fluid white pendant light that floats above the dining area, drawing the eye upward and emphasizing the open-concept volume.

Textural minimalism In this modern bath, the design story is told through the interplay of light and texture.
The walls and floors are clad in continuous gray linear stone, creating an unbroken visual flow that expands the space.
To soften the stone’s solidity, the client introduced a floating light wood vanity with under-cabinet lighting that makes the heavy materials appear weightless.
From the sleek concrete sink to the wall-hung toilet, every element was chosen for its clean lines, ensuring the focus remains on the room's serene, atmospheric glow.

A restrained color palette that introduces warmth through natural stone textures. The design is anchored by handle-less, flat-panel white cabinetry that creates a seamless, uncluttered look. The floor-to-ceiling pantry units on the right integrate the refrigerator, maintaining the room's streamlined aesthetic.
A beige-veined natural stone (likely quartzite or marble) is the star material, used for both the expansive island countertop and the full-height backsplash.
This continuity creates a sense of luxury and visual flow. Instead of heavy upper cabinets, the kitchen features floating open shelves flanking the custom white range hood. These shelves are styled with curated ceramics and seasonal autumn decor, adding personality and airiness to the space.
The stark white elements are balanced by the black integrated double wall ovens, which provide a graphic focal point. The large island serves as both a prep station and a gathering point, decorated with a large vase of oversized reddish-brown foliage that brings a touch of nature indoors.
