Stepping Into the Blueprint: A Life-Sized Walkthrough of "The Britt" at Walk Your Plans - Atlanta

If you're designing your dream home, it can be tough to visualize the true scale of your space just by looking at a 2D piece of paper or clicking through a 3D rendering on a monitor. That’s exactly why the Reynard Architectural Designs team recently met up with our clients, Jeff and Colleen, at Walk Your Plans in Roswell, GA.

Walk Your Plans - Atlanta
Walking the plans before breaking ground is a game-changer. It takes the guesswork out of the blueprints and allows homeowners to feel the flow of their daily routines. Here is a look behind the scenes at our interactive tour of the project affectionately nicknamed, "The Britt."
First Impressions: The Foyer and The Library
Right off the bat, walking the floor plan allowed the clients to experience the entryway.
The Office/Library: Originally designed as a standard room, stepping into the physical footprint helped us conceptualize swapping a single door for double French doors to create a grander entrance.
Built-ins for the Bookworms: Both clients are avid readers (and book club members!). Standing in the space made it easy to visualize precisely where the custom built-in bookshelves will go, ensuring the perfect backdrop for reading or taking video calls.

By physically standing in the walk-in pantry, Jeff realized he wanted just a bit more space for his extensive spice collection. We were able to immediately mark up the plans to push a wall back by one foot, perfectly customizing the space.
The Heart of the Home: Living Space and Kitchen
As we moved into the open-concept living room, the power of life-sized visualization really shined.
Ceilings and Fireplaces: Looking out toward the rear deck, we discussed the grand feel of the tall, coffered ceilings. We also workshopped fireplace finishes, debating the timelessness of brick versus a more rustic, mosaic flagstone pattern that avoids the dated look of early-2000s stacked stone.
Cooking with Gas: Jeff is the chef of the family, and designing this new home is an opportunity to have the cooking experience he's always wanted. Whether it's entertaining a small crowd or a cozy dinner for two.
The Pantry Pivot: Standing in the kitchen footprint led to the biggest "aha!" moment of the main floor. It was here we could see how much space he would like to have and plan for his kitchen layout.
The Master Suite: "So Much Room for Activities"
Walking the master suite offered a great perspective on furniture placement and daily flow.
We mapped out the footprint of their king-sized bed, a cozy window seat nook perfect for morning coffee, and the exact path into the master bathroom. Just like the kitchen pantry, experiencing the physical space allowed us to rethink the closet dimensions.

The Basement Retreat: Saloons, Records, and Swings
The lower level of "The Brit" is all about unwinding and entertaining.
The Saloon Bar: Forget the standard kitchenette; Jeff wants this space to feel like a true "Bar" and less kitchen. Walking the footprint helped us brainstorm finishes, counter heights, and lighting to give the space a distinct, authentic bar atmosphere perfect for pouring a glass of Black Label Scotch.
The "Quiet" Room: Officially labeled the quiet room, this space will actually be a dedicated record or "listening room". Custom speaker setups and vinyl storage will make this the ultimate audiophile escape.
The Outdoor Oasis: The basement walks out to a massive porch overlooking the Canton tree line. We immediately envisioned adding a suspended bed swing to the space—the perfect way to enjoy the night air and the privacy of their beautiful lot.
The Value of a Walkthrough
After an hour of walking the plans, making live redline adjustments, and watching Lumion and Revit 3D renderings on the big screen, the novelty wore off and the reality of their future home set in. Suddenly, the digital walls weren't just impressive graphics; they were the boundaries of their daily lives.

We like to think this experience takes abstract concepts and transforms them into tangible moments. Our clients could finally feel the spatial relationship between the kitchen island and the living room where they’d host family gatherings, and they could see exactly how the morning light would filter into their master suite. It was no longer just a project on a screen—it was the place where their next chapter would unfold.
A huge thank you to Mark Brown and the team at Walk Your Plans in Roswell for hosting us on a holiday weekend! We can't wait to see "The Brit" come to life in Canton.
