Architectural Style & Design Concept
The "Morning Dove" residence is a home that features Refined Mountain Transitional architecture. Located in the scenic town of Young Harris, Georgia, this custom home seamlessly blends timeless historical character with modern luxury. Designed by architect James Knight, the home features a sprawling, multi-volume footprint tailored specifically to its expansive 4.5-acre lot, prioritizing effortless indoor-outdoor connectivity and a grand, welcoming presence.
A key feature of the front elevation is the elegant arched breezeway. It links the main residence to a detached single-car garage. Alongside the attached three-car garage, this arrangement provides a sophisticated motor court look and abundant storage for luxury mountain and lake living.
Materiality & Exterior Palette
The exterior palette grounds the large structure in its North Georgia mountain setting. It does so with a curated mix of natural textures and modern contrast.
Siding: The main exterior walls feature horizontal boards painted in a clean off-white or cream color. These are highlighted by dark gray horizontal panels placed on the smaller roof sections (called secondary gables).
Roofing: The roof is made of dark charcoal-colored asphalt shingles (a common roofing material for its durability) that create a bold contrast. Certain areas, such as over the smaller windows (dormers) and the porch edges (eaves), use standing-seam metal panels with visible raised lines, offering extra durability and a modern style.
Stone: Warm stacked stone in gray and tan covers the lower walls, outdoor kitchen, and big fireplaces, with brick around the foundation.
Wood: Stained solid wood columns and open wood supports make the front entry and back porch feel warm and inviting.
Fenestration: Expansive casement windows and large sliding glass doors, framed in dark aluminum, maximize natural light and scenic vistas.
Interior Program & Layout
The 5,809 heated square feet of interior are thoughtfully planned. It accommodates both grand entertaining and comfortable daily living.
The main level features a private primary suite with a spa-style bathroom and walk-in closet, along with a spacious guest suite. Upstairs are three more bedrooms, two with en-suite baths and one served by a full shared bath.
There are five full bathrooms for the bedrooms. Two half baths accommodate guests and serve as a dedicated pool bath accessible from the patio.
The open main living room has high ceilings and a fireplace. It connects to a gourmet kitchen with a large island that seats six. The plan includes a formal dining room and a casual breakfast area.
Amenities include a private office, a wet bar, ample mudroom and storage, and an upstairs gym with a direct laundry chute, all designed for a luxurious and active lifestyle.
Outdoor Living & Recreation
Morning Dove’s rear grounds offer a private, resort-like retreat for recreation and relaxation.
A large covered veranda with a stone outdoor fireplace overlooks a rectangular pool with a spa. The outdoor kitchenette and lounge make alfresco dining easy.
The backyard features a private pickleball court set within the 4.5 acres, offering premier recreation amid lush mountain foliage.
